Tour Overview:
The Sun Trail is a new way to reach Machu Picchu throughout ancestral paths. Machu Picchu was a huge Inca province and was connected by a great network of roads.
Can you imagine when it was alive and active, five hundred years ago? A sight to see a vast area of soaring, forest-covered mountains studded with dramatically-placed settlements of white granite and frequently interrupted by large open tracts of agricultural terracing, corrals, granaries, small clusters of houses, and mountaintop observation platforms. And in all directions one would have seen runners, travelers and trains of llamas moving along the elaborate web of highways that held all this together: eight Inca roads converged at Machu Picchu.
This journey takes you through a combination of the treks to reach Machu Picchu. It's a nice experience walking through a region of outstanding natural beauty and ecological variety, containing habitats for many rare plants and animals. It contains a startling sweep of altitudes and ecological zones in a small area, from near the ice-capped summit of Salkantay down through layers of high grassland and diverse cloud-forest habitats.
